Another one bites the dust

Today I recieved an email from another woman wanting to know how much I would charge for filming her wedding! I sent her the same email as the first, changing a few minor details, hopefully she'll be just as interested.
I'm begginning to think that for the moment, focusing on weddings would be the way to go, seeing as I've gotten two wedding requests in the same day. It makes sense, it's November, it's warm, I guess wedding season is on. It's a potential goldmine! More updates as they come.

First Buyer

Well it has been a few days since I put my ads out into the paper, and online. I didn't recieve any calls from the newspaper ad, so there goes $19.80 down the drain. On the other hand, my online ads were free, and they stay on the website indefinately, rather than just the one time printing of the newpaper ads. I'd highly recommend placing an ad in a free online local classifieds if one is available to you, lucky for me, there is.
So this ads been up there for a few days and already I've recieved my first email. How exciting! A woman wants to know how much I would charge for filming her whole wedding day. I replied telling her that I've never filmed a wedding, but that I've done a few short films and a few gigs around town and that if she's interested I would be able to put together my work for her to have a look at, I also told her that I would film the whole day, then put it all on an interactive DVD for approx $800.

A few hours later she wrote back saying she was interested and that we should meet up. The problem is I don't exactly know how to make a DVD with menus just yet, I guess I'll have to figure that bit out later, but for now I'm just going to put all my work onto disc to give to her and hopefully she'll be interested in hiring me for her wedding.

Shameless plugs all-round!

Thought I'd at least put up somesort of content, so here is my major piece of work from my first year of Uni. It's a 3 minute long flash animation, the point was to create a piece of animation that conveys a meaning to a piece of royalty free music, this was the result. You can watch it here.

First things first

Before we get into anything else I thought I might tell you a little bit about myself, my history and my plans for the future of big media enterprise.
For the last couple of years I've been looking into all things media, mainly film, and trying to be as active as possible within the industry. When I saw my local University had a degree in Media Production I immediately jumped at the opportunity, with the hope of learn anything and everything I can about film. After getting a few jobs filming friends gigs around town I've realised that starting a production company and filming what people want filmed can turn a hefty profit. So I placed a number of ads in the local newspaper (which cost me $19.80), and an online classifieds website that caters specifically for my city (which cost me nothing), and now I'll have to sit back and see if I get any responses.
To give you guys a bit of an idea of what I put up as my ad I'll post a little excerpt:

"Do you have an event, wedding, function or anything that you would like recorded? Then don't delay. I will film, edit and create a proffessional DVD, CD or VHS of your event so that you can keep your treasured memories to have and to share, always!

I am a Media Production student at the University of Canberra with experience with cameras, editing and all things visual. So you can be assured of the quality..."

Sounds a little lame I know, but hopefully I'll get a few hits.

I wanted to take a few photos of my equipment so that you can see what I'm using here, but realised that my girlfriend has my camera and stuff for the week, so it'll have to come later.

It Begins

Welcome one and all to my wonderfully created blog, isn't it swish?
This being my first post I'll let you all know what this is all about. I am a Media production student at the University of Canberra, Australia. I've just finished my first year and have about 6 months of holidays to burn! I've always dabbled a bit in freelance filming and now I've decided to start my own production company, hopefully gain some more experience, have some fun, and maybe even make some money on the side! All the while posting about my exploits, failures, and maybe even a few successes on here.
"Yeah?" I hear you ask? "So what asshole?"
Well my answer to that hopefully some people reading this are in the same boat as me and they'll benefit with what I have to say, an thus, whatever happens to me will not go to waste. So sit back, read about my experiences, and hopefully learn something!
